Most landscape timbers that I have seen are dipped. Have seen a few that were pressure treated but they are the exception. The dipped ones have very little penetration of the chemical.
Home depot has 3X3X8 with rounded edge treated landscape timbers on sale for $1.97 ea. Are there any reasons I can't use them as fence posts? I like the slabbed off sides for putting fence planks on but I wonder if the green treating is sufficient for use when buried.
Not perfect posts but with them I just painted the whole post with deck stain (worked out great with what I was using them for). Even with the tar or stain, the t-posts would have cost more. So I would say timbers fine, just coat the part going into the ground with something.

In putting up my new horse pasture I am using 6" round posts for the corners and braces, and then t-posts the rest of the way with every third post being wood. I am thinking of using landscape timbers for these inline wood posts.
